Hello, my name is Courtney and I’d like to welcome you all to my first ever blog post! If you can’t tell yet, I’m super excited and I hope you are too! Today I’m going to talk about what really happens backstage at most fashion shows.
Fashion shows are collaborations of different talents that are brought together in one event. This is where you find designers, stylists, DJs, hair stylists, runway choreographers, organisers, makeup artists and last but definitely not least, the models. All these people agree to come together to showcase their talents in the most creative and organised manner anyone could ever imagine.
Some fashion shows are only one hour long, bigger ones can take up a whole weekend and then we have the biggest ones of all, the almighty fashion week, where the shows will run for a whole week! Seven full days of nothing but fashion, fashion and more fashion. No matter how long or short a show might be, the story is always the same backstage.
Everyone is under tremendous pressure behind the scenes; from the backstage helpers to the designers to the makeup artists and down to the models. Everyone has to bring their A+ game to make sure that everything goes according to plan.
As calm and serene and put together everything looks to you all out there, if you happen to open up those curtains and step backstage, you’ll swear that you just stepped into a different world. You see it all backstage; chaos, tantrums, mini dance parties, selfies, usies, outbursts, last minute rehearsals, hair touch ups, ever rising tension, sweet infectious fun, minor/major accidents, creativity, melt-downs and of course the makeup sessions.
It will be my greatest pleasure to let you know that all these things happen at the same time and occur in no particular order. In spite of it all, the model is the one who has got to “walk the walk” and make sure everyone’s hard work comes to a beautiful and well organised end, one tiny mistake and everything comes crashing down.
Fashion shows are like one big glamorous exhibition where everyone tends to be a prince/princess during the show and a “warrior” backstage…so if you’re thinking of entering the world of modeling, you better come prepared.
